Introduction
Ronin is an EVM based blockchain, crafted for developers who want to build games with player-owned economies. These ecosystems, due to their combination of community, leisure, and economics, are becoming known as digital nations.
For several years the growth of Axie Infinity was stunted because of limited scalability on Ethereum Mainnet. In the 1st month of operating on Ronin, Axie experienced:

9 months after release and prior to token launch, Ronin has already seen significant adoption:
• 250,000 unique daily active addresses
• Katana, Ronin's Dex, is the #2 dex by weekly active users
• 5 B in deposited value
• 15% of all NFT transactions in 2021 happened on Ronin
• 2 M + Ronin wallet downloads
These data points demonstrate the amazing growth that can be unlocked through Ronin.
Ronin's main benefits are:
- Cheap & fast transactions with quick confirmation time (2-3s block time).
- The ability to withdraw Axie assets back to Ethereum Mainnet using the Ronin bridge.
- Simplified onboarding for new users with a fiat on-ramp and native wallet.
While we (Sky Mavis) built Ronin to solve major issues we experienced while building Axie, its future success lies in the hands of the next generation of NFT game developers who will leverage Ronin to offer the same benefits to their players while inheriting the existing user base, community owned protocols and applications, third party ecosystem, and deep liquidity.
Game developers need a battle-tested NFT scaling solution to reach the hearts of a new audience. Ronin has a unique opportunity to capitalize on this need because:
- Axie Infinity network effects are strong and growing stronger by the week. This strengthens the case for Ronin as the default NFT scaling solution for gaming.
- Ronin is operational and quickly becoming battle-tested. Today, Ronin handles more NFT volume than all other Ethereum NFT scaling solutions combined. In 2021, more than 15% of all NFT volume happened on Ronin.
- The Ronin bridge is currently the third largest bridge by total volume transferred, right behind Polygon and Avalanche. There's over 3 B in value deposited on the Ronin bridge, making it a top 5 Ethereum bridge by TVL.
We ultimately plan to have Ronin serve as the premier location to launch both Axie-related games as well as new NFT gaming experiences from both experienced and up-and-coming game developers. These digital economies will be served by best-in-class infrastructure to support their dreams such as Katana which is the #1 Decentralized exchange for in-game resources and our in-house NFT marketplace which has already processed over 3.5 B USD in NFT volume as of November 2021.
